Liuzhou Luosifen in Chengdu: A Spicy Favourite Across the City
As Liuzhou Luosifen became famous nationwide, it also found a home in Chengdu, a city known for its great food. Now, Luosifen shops are everywhere in Chengdu, and each has its own loyal fans. Let’s look at how Chengdu is falling in love with this spicy, sour noodle dish.
A Popular Lunch Spot
At noon, we visited a Luosifen shop on Ma’an South Road. The 60-square-meter shop was full of customers, and delivery orders kept coming.
Li Shuai, a delivery driver in Chengdu, said he often picks up orders from this shop. “On a busy day, I come here eight or nine times,” he said.
Regular Customers Love It
While delivery drivers are busy, diners in the shop enjoy their bowls of Luosifen. Ms. Hu and her daughter are regulars here. “We really like the taste—the soup is rich and flavorful,” she said. They eat Luosifen three to four times a month.
Besides the noodles, the shop offers tasty side dishes like pork knuckles, duck feet, fried eggs, and local snacks. They sometimes introduce new items that surprise their customers.
Ms. Xi, another regular, said: “They often launch new dishes, like konjac luosifen. It’s always a nice surprise.”
Growing a Luosifen Brand
This shop is part of Guangxi Luoxianxiang Catering Company. It opened in 2021 and uses ingredients directly from Liuzhou. While keeping the traditional taste, the shop also creates new varieties and focuses on cleanliness.
After almost three years, the shop has become quite popular. The general manager, Wu Qiang, said they now sell nearly 1,000 bowls daily. Because of its growing popularity, many people have asked about franchising. The brand now has 110 stores across China, including 42 in Chengdu.
A Dish That Fits Right In
In the afternoon, we visited another Luosifen shop in Shuangliu District. The 85-square-meter space was also full. Some customers were sweating from the spiciness, but couldn’t stop eating.
Mr. Liu drove across town to have a bowl. He couldn’t stop praising the taste. Ms. Xu said Luosifen suits the Sichuan palate perfectly. “I especially love the sour bamboo shoots,” she added.
Looking Ahead
Wu Qiang says the goal is to keep making great Luosifen while ensuring everything is clean and safe. Another manager, Xia Shikai, hopes to build a strong brand and bring Luosifen to more people around China and the world.
