As a leading modern oriental tea brand, CHAGEE always focuses on customer needs. Noticing growing interest in low-caffeine drinks, the brand officially launched its new “Light Caffeine” series on March 21. A dedicated low-caffeine section is now available online, with more products to come this year.
This move shows CHAGEE’s commitment to health and brings new energy to the tea industry.
Tea is known as a healthy drink. It contains many beneficial nutrients, including caffeine, which helps people stay alert.
A study on caffeine intake in China found that tea is the main source of caffeine for adults (74.8%), followed by tea drinks, milk tea, and coffee.
In the past, many milk teas didn’t use real tea. So, people didn’t expect milk tea to keep them awake. However, with new tea brands like CHAGEE using real tea and real milk, caffeine sensitivity has become a real concern.
Some people say milk tea keeps them up all night online. Others say it doesn’t affect their sleep. Both views make sense. The issue is that many don’t realize real tea contains caffeine—and everyone reacts differently.
According to official advice, healthy adults should have no more than 400mg of caffeine per day (about 3–5 cups of coffee). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should have less than 200mg.
So, should brands go back to using artificial powders instead of real tea? Definitely not. Today’s consumers want drinks that are both tasty and healthy.
After listening to customer feedback, CHAGEE developed its new Light Caffeine series. This is a big step toward healthier tea options.
Chen Pengyi from CHAGEE’s tea team explained: “We use special technology to reduce caffeine while keeping the tea’s aroma and flavor. This is great for people who are sensitive to caffeine—like pregnant women or those who metabolize it slowly—and for anyone looking for a healthier choice.”
How much less caffeine is in the new series? A large cup of Light Caffeine · Boya Juexian has about 53mg of caffeine—50% less than the original version. It’s perfect for those who want a light boost without too much caffeine.
Reducing caffeine isn’t easy. Old methods used chemicals that could affect taste and safety. CHAGEE uses CO₂ supercritical fluid extraction—a physical process that removes caffeine naturally without chemicals.
“This method is safe, effective, and protects the tea’s flavor,” said Chen.
CHAGEE is known for using real tea. Since the beginning, the brand has focused on quality ingredients and authentic taste.
Rather than just making milk tea or fruit tea, CHAGEE created a new category: Modern Oriental Tea. It combines traditional tea culture with modern methods, appealing to young people with innovative drinks and stylish packaging.
The brand has also introduced a “Low GI” label on 11 drinks—including the popular Boya Juexian—to help customers make smarter choices. Every cup shows the amount of caffeine in it, so people know exactly what they’re drinking.
Following national health guidelines, CHAGEE has also started using a “Nutrition Grade” system in Shanghai. This system ranks drinks based on sugar, sweeteners, and fat content. Soon, it will roll out to over 6,000 stores nationwide.
As an industry leader, CHAGEE continues to listen to customers and innovate. The new Light Caffeine series is just the beginning. The brand aims to serve 15 billion cups of modern oriental tea per year across 100 countries—promoting a healthier, more sustainable tea culture worldwide.
